Mark Your Calendars for “King Caesar’s Autumn Fest”

Scheduled for Sunday, October 22 from 1-5 p.m. “King Caesar’s Autumn Fest” will be an afternoon of activities at the King Caesar House and grounds geared towards families.  It will include crafts, musical performances, games, competitions, food and more.  The event is co-chaired by Judy Hall, Jane Hinkley and Marta Johnston.

“We’re excited about having a family event,” says Alison Arnold, Assistant Director of the Society.  “Most of our events in the past have either been exclusively for children or adults.  We’re hoping this will become a tradition and something that parents can enjoy with their children at King Caesar’s House.”

The “Fest” will take place over the entire grounds of the property.  Several skilled artisans will demonstrate period crafts and skills.  Children will have an opportunity to dress in reproduction 19th century costumes and have their photos taken. In the spirit of the season there will be apple bobbing, a hunt for miniature pumpkins, and many other harvest-themed activities.

In keeping with a small, county fair, there will be several competitions over the course of the afternoon.  The Society is working with the Duxbury schools to organize a poetry competition for the best poem about Duxbury in the fall as well as the best drawing of the King Caesar House.  Awards will be given in several age categories and it is hoped that students of all ages (and adults too!) will enter the competition.  There will also be a pie contest, a scarecrow contest, and various races over the course of the afternoon.  Watch the Clipper for more details on how to enter the competitions.

Reenactors, depicting both military and civilian ways of life, will be on hand to discuss life in the 18th and 19th centuries and to demonstrate period military drill and other activities.  Musicians on tap for the day will include Cynthia Weller who will play period sea chanties on fiddle.

Sure to be a favorite of the afternoon, the Clydesdale team from Hobby Knoll Stables in Duxbury will be present to give wagon rides around Powder Point.  Anyone who has seen this stunning team at the Duxbury Fourth of July Parade knows that this is an opportunity not to be missed!

Due to the large number of families expected, parking for the event will be at the Duxbury High School.  Attendees will then be brought to the King Caesar House by trolley.  Admission will be $5 for adults, $3 for children (6-12), under 6 free (maximum of $20 per family).#
