Meet Kerry Durkin, our New Archivist

We are delighted to announce the hiring of Ms. Kerry Durkin as the Duxbury Rural and Historical Society’s Archivist.

Kerry was hired this summer to manage the new Drew Archival Library in the Wright Building.  The search committee, consisting of Patrick Browne, Bob Hale and Katherine Pillsbury received many applications for the position and chose Kerry after an extensive series of interviews with interested candidates.

Kerry received her Master’s degree in Library and Information Science, with a concentration in Archival Management from Simmons College. While in school, she gained experience working with various types of archival collections, including manuscripts, photographs and architectural drawings.  In the course of her studies, she conducted internships with several prestigious archives including the Rare Books and Manuscripts Department at The Boston Public Library, Project SAVE Armenian Archives, and the Office of Records Management at the First Church of Christ, Scientist.

Prior to her studies at Simmons, Kerry spent a year as an Americorps volunteer working with youth in New York’s Hudson Valley and also authored a research publication which evaluated youth ministry efforts in the Capuchin Franciscan Province of St. Mary.

Ms. Durkin completed her undergraduate studies at Providence College where she was a Political Science major.

It has been a busy summer for Kerry as she prepares for the opening of the Drew Archival Library on September 22.  After that date, the archives will be open for regular hours, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Please feel free to stop in to visit this fall.  In particular, if you are interesting in volunteer work at the archives, Kerry would very much like to hear from you.  You may contact Kerry at kdurkin@duxburyhistory.org or at 781-934-1382.
