DRHS Elects New President and Trustees

February 2006

Four new members have been elected to the Society’s Board of Trustees this winter: They are Gene Ali, Andrea Heinstadt, Ken Johnston and Jerry Kriegel.  All the new members are talented, knowledgeable members of the community and outstanding additions to the leadership of the Society.

During a gathering of the trustees in January, the outgoing members of the Board were presented with plaques and received the hearty thanks of their fellow trustees.  The four outgoing trustees have all been energetic and dedicated supporters of the Society for many years.  Alice Vautrain and Audrey Macdonald have both served on the Board since 1999 and taken part in countless subcommittees and fundraising projects.  Bill Rice served as a Trustee since 1996 and was Vice-President for much of that time.  During his tenure he helped to organize two capital campaigns.  And of course David Jenkins served as a Trustee since 1999 and led the Society as President since 2002.

Treasurer Andrew Chase, during the annual meeting, best expressed everyone’s appreciation for David’s work, saying, “One cannot discuss outstanding leadership without considering our retiring President, David Jenkins.  All of David’s contributions over his 8 years with the Society are simply too great to mention, but a few accomplishments indeed stand out.  Under his tenure, our annual revenue base has doubled from approximately $150,000 to $293,000; the Society’s net worth has increased by almost $1,000,000; our membership base has steadily increased; and a five year strategic plan was developed and successfully executed.  His fundraising abilities are legendary and have been instrumental in achieving our strategic goals and objectives.  David’s charm, wit, determination, commitment and guidance will be missed, although his impact will most certainly endure for years to come.”

During the February Trustees meeting, Ken Johnston was elected President of the Society, succeeding David Jenkins.  As a former Board member and past Treasurer, Ken has been a long-time supporter of the Society and has demonstrated a strong commitment to the Society’s welfare.
